NYC Pride is all about celebrating the
LGBT community! If you aren’t doing anything this weekend, but want to get out
there and show support (and not spend too much) then there are some free events that are being
held in the city:
The Rally - June 27th
Hudson River Park’s Pier 26 will host
the official kickoff to the Pride festivities with The Rally, from 6 to 9:30
p.m. The Rally is a free, all-ages event featuring emcee Michelle Visage
(Rupaul's Drag Race) and performances by Sharon Needles and Betty Who.
The March - June 29th
With the first one held in 1970 during the one year anniversary of
the Stonewall riots, the March is the center of New York City’s Pride
celebration. Follow the parade from 36th Street at Fifth Avenue down to
Christopher and Greenwich Streets. Lineup is at 11 a.m., and the parade begins
at noon. This year, the 2014 Grand Marshals are Laverne Cox, Rea Carey and
Jonathan Groff.
Pridefest – June 29th
PrideFest, the annual LGBT street fair celebrating its 20th year.
Located on Hudson Street between Abingdon Square and W 14th Street, visitors
can hit up vendors and enjoy entertainers and activities throughout the
afternoon. Performances run from 12:30 to 5 p.m. A full list of performers can
be found at the official website NYC PRIDE
MRS
